Trent’s Story

Born in the big smoke Kogarah, Sydney, I spent first few years in the shire before moving to the little town down of Ballina, before then moving up to Kingscliff to pursue my swimming goals/career with the swim squad there.

Growing up in Ballina in a very active community I was always playing any sport from swimming, surfing, touch football, rugby, soccer, water polo and golf and anything else in between.

One of my biggest influencers was my close neighbour and his dad who was also my first swimming coach. Anything he did I wanted to do also I was his little follower, and he took me along for the ride with all the sports above.

In Ballina I finished my schooling- I defiantly wasn’t a scholar as I was much more invested in sports and was away a lot on swim camps. I chose not to go to Uni but wanted to do a trade, so I started out in carpentry then onto stonemasonry, then into the aviation industry for several years before my mate who I grew up with gave me a little nudge to possibly change career in pursuit of doing something I enjoyed.

He was a chiro and mentioned how good it would be to work together helping as many people as we can so gave me a direction towards being a Massage Therapist. My first short course I completed Nearly 20 years ago before drifting away a bit and then reconnecting with a passion to help people. I went back and studied around the corner at Massage Schools of Queensland and finished my diploma & received DUX of my class (this goes with the saying “find something you are passionate about and everything feels easy”)  and then went straight into sports with the Gold Coast Titans before a code switch over to the GC Suns in the AFL .

I spent 5 seasons with the Gold Coast Suns AFL as Massage Therapist.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have worked with some of our nation’s best athletes and national teams during my time, and also some of the best practitioners in their fields and created some awesome relationships.

My greatest achievements to date personally are my 3 children Asha, Lakey, and Jedd, along with my wife Bridget and I have been able to create a life by the beach in Casuarina with a work life balance to be there for them when they need, and to be present for the special moments like first days of school and pre school and other special occasions.

Professionally, I’m proud to still be as passionate as I was when I found my avenue to help as many people as I can through massage, continually learning different ways to facilitate this and not fall away to another massage therapist statistic packing it in.

My newest found passion came after Asha was diagnosed with Systemic JIA (Juvenile Idiopathic arthritis) at 15 months of age, after spending a month in hospital not knowing what was happening and searching to no end for answers, we finally got one. Bridge and I learnt a lot of ourselves through that time and came out the other side wanting to do more for these little ones. As a health practitioner I hadn’t heard much about it and was then on a mission to connect with a charity to raise much needed awareness and connect to other parents and offer as much support as we could.

I wanted to raise funds for this charity called Zoe’s Angles who helped many families. So I somehow discovered Ironman Triathlon and decided to put my body through some suffering to raise some funds and awareness. I figured that whatever I choose to put my body through, it would never equivalate to what these little ones go though. This experience led me to always be on the hunt for a new challenge and to try any suggestions for different races that push the mind and body, so watch this space.
