A Proud Queenslander, born & bred in a small country town called Oakey which is approximately 20mins out of Toowoomba.
I was a care free kid growing up & I was a bit of a tomboy as well. I would be always be outside playing around the yard & my favourite thing was the old swing that we had which I would spend a lot of my time on. I also enjoyed swimming in the local creek, climbing trees, riding my bike around the town or horse riding. I was always very close to my dad & if I wasn’t playing, I would be his little helper when he was fixing things, mending fences, feeding the horses or if he was building things, I was quite the little shadow. My dad also taught me Old-Time dancing like the foxtrot, quickstep etc as he had his own band which he played saxophone & my brother was on the drums. Every time dad’s band had to play somewhere we would all have to go & I remember when I used to get tired & it was past my bedtime, he would set up a bed on the floor for me at the back of the stage, usually behind the drums.
I never had any musical talent like my dad or brother, but I was very sporty in primary school & enjoyed running 200 & 400m, long jump & high jump & playing netball. It was then in high school I took an interest in long distance & cross country running & became really good at it.
I had a few jobs after that until I finally ended up working for QML Pathology & I was there for 10 years. My husband and I lived in Brisbane for 9 or so years & then moved to the Goldie as we were always down the coast every weekend as Richie was always surfing.
I started to get and interest in doing nursing which my dad always wanted me to be. I knew I would have been good at it because I love helping people & I have a lot of compassion & empathy for people. I didn’t become a nurse but after a strange turn of events, I now find myself as a full time carer for my husband who suffered a stroke in 2013.
I was getting tired of being at home full time & I wanted to get back to the workforce after Caring for Richie. ’m happy to say that I have now been working for Gold Coast Physio & Sports Health now since the start of 2017 & have learnt so much during that time & I’m still continuing to learn new things & I’m enjoying working with everyone along the way.
