Kasey’s Story
I was born and raised in Newcastle NSW, where I lived for the first 20 years of my life before moving to Sydney where I would spend the next 20 years working in Hospitality.
Growing up I had always aspired to be a diagnostic radiation therapist setting sights firmly on a career in this area, spending school holidays gaining work experience at the local hospital and private practice. I thoroughly enjoyed the interaction with patients and of course the scientific side of the field held great interest to me. Out of nowhere when it was time to apply for University, I took a completely different path ultimately graduating from University with a Social Science degree in Recreation and Tourism, majoring in Tourism Management.
Whilst studying at University I worked for several years at the local hospital in an administration role, and like so many students also filled time working in hospitality. Unfortunately at the time, hospitality roles in Newcastle were few and far between, I soon found myself in Sydney as a Trainee Manager of a 5 star hotel, where I had the pleasure of hosting guests from all over the world. The ultimate highlight being working through the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games which was one of the most exciting, exhilarating and exhausting experiences working with a great team and being fortunate to reap the benefits of last minute tickets to events. I worked my way through management levels in several hotels, fulfilling roles such as Front office Manager and Guest Relations Manager where I had truly found my passion working with amazing colleagues and fulfilling the needs of thousands upon thousands of customers. My hospitality highlight came when I was appointed Operations Manager of a newly built hotel and so began one of the most challenging and personally rewarding roles of my life.
Change was always but a step away and soon I found myself working for a Global Hospitality Technology company as a Major Account Sales Manager managing the accounts of global hotel chains. I held a number of different roles within the organisation which saw me doing a remarkable amount of travel through Asia-Pacific, fuelling an intense love of travel that I still possess today.
Along the way I had the opportunity to simultaneously own and operate a boutique gymnasium based within a large hotel, providing me amazing experience in all areas of business management and providing me with enormous practical experience as I gained my Certificates III and IV in Fitness.
Global adventure was soon on the cards as my husband, young son and I packed up everything we owned and relocated to the United States, living in Connecticut which was one of the most amazing experiences imaginable. I was able to pursue my great love of the outdoors all year round with a buffet of trail running, mountain bike riding and snowboarding on the cards.
Our family welcomed a baby girl who has the fortune of being a dual citizen much to her brother’s dismay and soon after it was time to return to Australia to ensure the children had the opportunity to grow up with family around them.
In terms of sports and recreation my household is an incredibly busy one. Both my husband and son are keen baseball players, with my son recently having represented Australia. My daughter is a keen dancer . I am definitely the least talented of the family, but have never let ability get in the way of commitment having enjoyed sports such as netball, volleyball and hockey when I was younger. After meeting my husband I developed a stronger passion in outdoor recreation such as trail running, hiking, mountain biking riding and snowboarding. Unfortunately quite a lot of that had been limited in recent years after multiple hip surgeries and the associated rehabilitation required. I can proudly say I am back to feeling my best, I recently successfully completed the Kokoda Legacy 30km & the 48km GC challenge, titanium hip and all and can honestly say it was one of the most physically rewarding challenges I have ever undertaken.
I am excited to join the mygcphysio front desk team and be a welcoming face to our patients as they embark on their wellness journey.
